Server backup

Back up a Windows Server the same way

A Windows Server is still a Windows computer, so the same agent installs on it as a Windows Service and protects the files and folders you choose: shared drives, application data, exported reports.

Runs as the same Windows Service

Installed with the same MSI, as LocalSystem, with automatic restart on failure. It keeps backing up whether or not anyone is logged into the server.

Protects the files that matter on it

Shared folders, line-of-business application data, scheduled export files, accounting data such as Tally — Backora detects common Tally data folders during setup and offers to include them.

Restore to a replacement server

If the server itself needs replacing, restore its most recent verified backup onto the new machine using the same account.

What this page does not claim

  • This is file-level backup, not a full system image: it does not capture the operating system, installed applications or a bare-metal restore point.
  • It does not integrate with Windows VSS or take a live, application-consistent snapshot of a database engine that is still running.
  • There is no Linux server support today.

Questions about server backup

Will it back up a live SQL Server database?

Not directly. Schedule the database's own export or backup job to write a file, and protect the folder that file lands in — see Database backup for the honest version of this.

Does it need a reboot to install?

No. The installer runs the service install without requiring a restart, and later upgrades are also reboot-free.

Can I restore just one folder from the server, not everything?

Yes. The restore picker lets you choose individual files or folders, or everything, from any verified backup.
